Notice issued by the President’s Media Division on Curfew imposed on Sunday, 31st May, Thursday 4th June and Friday 5th June 2020 (Notice No.129 dated 28th May 2020)

  1. According to the aforementioned notice, island wide curfew will be imposed on Sunday 31st May and thereafter on the Thursday 4th and Friday 5th June 2020.
  2. Only the sectors/establishments designated as providers of essential services, and those who have been specifically granted permission to work during ‘strict curfew’ days, (i.e. prior to the 11th of May 2020) will be able to operate.
  3. Obtaining curfew passes for employees will be imperative if they are to be deployed for work.  The practice of showing text messages or letters issued by establishments to the law enforcement authorities will not be sufficient.
  4. Employers who wish to operate on the aforementioned ‘curfew’ days will also be required to make arrangements for transport as it is likely that public transport services will be severely restricted on the relevant days.
  5.  Employers are encouraged to contact the Police Headquarters or the local Police in the areas where your establishments are located to find out the conditions that are in place if work is to be carried out on the 31st  of May or on the 4th and 5th of June 2020.
  6. Furthermore, deployments to ‘work from home’ are encouraged – wherever possible – if work is interrupted due to the imposition of ‘curfew’.  Regrettably those who cannot be assigned such work may have to be considered as being ‘benched’ (i.e. on account of the inability to deploy employees at work due to restrictions imposed by authorities due to health conditions).
  7. According to this communique, the island-wide curfew is due to be lifted during the period Monday 1st to Wednesday 3rd June and thereafter from Saturday 6th June until further notice. However, the night-time curfew is to continue in all districts daily from 10.00 p.m. to 4.00 am.
