EFC Conducts Training on Proper Usage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)


The Employers’ Federation of Ceylon (EFC) successfully conducted a Training Programme on the Proper Usage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) on 30 October 2025 at the EFC Auditorium, Rajagiriya, as part of its ongoing commitment to strengthening Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) standards in workplaces.

The programme was designed to enhance participants’ understanding of the importance of PPE in preventing workplace injuries and occupational hazards, while promoting compliance with national safety regulations and organizational safety policies. The training catered to a diverse group of participants and was delivered as a bilingual programme, ensuring accessibility and effective learning.

The primary objectives of the training included enhancing knowledge on different types of PPE and their specific applications across various work environments, developing practical skills on the correct selection, use, adjustment, and maintenance of PPE, and promoting a strong safety culture through consistent and responsible PPE usage. Emphasis was placed on the role of PPE in ensuring maximum protection, comfort, and productivity at work.

The session covered key thematic areas such as an introduction to Occupational Safety and Health, the current regulatory framework governing PPE usage in Sri Lanka, and practical guidance on respiratory protection, head, eye, and face protection, as well as hearing, hand, and foot protection. The interactive nature of the programme enabled participants to gain hands-on insights into PPE best practices relevant to their respective industries.

The training was conducted by Mr. Shayan Appuhamy, Assistant General Manager, who shared valuable technical expertise and practical industry experience, enabling participants to better understand workplace risks and appropriate protective measures.
