
Tackling Digital Threats: EFC Hosts Training on Detecting and Investigating Cyber Crimes in the Workplace
In a digital age where the workplace extends well beyond physical boundaries, understanding and managing cyber threats have become essential. Addressing this urgent need, the Employers’ Federation of Ceylon (EFC) conducted a specialized training session titled “Detecting & Investigating ‘Cyber Crimes’ at the Workplace” on 25th March 2025 at the EFC Auditorium, Rajagiriya.
The training was part of EFC’s continuing commitment to support its member organizations in navigating legal and operational challenges in an increasingly technology-driven environment. The session attracted HR professionals, compliance officers, IT managers, and legal practitioners from both public and private sectors.
Expert-Led Knowledge Sharing
Two distinguished speakers led the session:
- Mr. Sujit Christy, President of Circulo de CISO.
- Dr. Thusitha Abeysekara, Head of the Legal Studies Unit, Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, University of Sri Jayewardenepura.
A significant portion of the session was dedicated to understanding the do’s and don’ts in cyber-crime investigations, especially within the framework of Sri Lankan law. Attendees were given an overview of essential legislation relevant to workplace cyber-crime, including:
- Computer Crimes Act No. 24 of 2007
- Online Safety Act No. 9 of 2024
- Evidence (Special Provisions) Act No. 14 of 1995
- Electronic Transactions Act No. 19 of 2006
- Civil Procedure Code Amendment Act No. 29 of 2023
Through real-world examples and interactive discussions, the session emphasized how to ensure legal compliance while conducting internal investigations, and how to preserve digital evidence in a way that is admissible in court.
