Employers’ Meeting on Platform Economy in South Asia Held in Collaboration with EFC, ILO and ACTEMP
The Employers’ Federation of Ceylon (EFC), in collaboration with the International Labour Organization (ILO) and Bureau for Employers’ Activities (ACTEMP), successfully concluded the ILO Employers’ Meeting on Platform Economy in South Asia on 28–29 July 2025 at the Taj Samudra Hotel, Colombo. The meeting provided a unique forum for Employer and Business Membership Organizations (EBMOs) and digital platform companies from India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal, and Sri Lanka to come together and discuss the challenges, complexities, and opportunities in the platform economy, including regulatory concerns, sustainability, and decent work.
The opening session featured distinguished speakers, including Ms. Michiko Miyamoto, ILO DWT Director South Asia – New Delhi; Mr. Roberto Suarez Santos, Secretary General, International Organization of Employers (IOE), Geneva; Ms. Tugschimeg Sanchir, Senior Adviser, Bureau for Employers’ Activities, ILO Geneva; and Mr. Alok Shriram, Chairperson, South Asia Forum of Employers (SAFE) and Member of the Management Board, IOE. Held for the first time in South Asia, the meeting created a space for employers and platform companies to engage in constructive dialogue on the future of platform work in the region and the strategies needed to support a sustainable and inclusive platform economy.
