Avani Samarakoon

Avani joined the EFC in January 2025 and is assigned to the Research and Publications Unit. In addition, she is involved in advising member organizations on labor/employment law and industrial relations.  She was admitted as an Attorney-at-Law by the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka in 2023. Prior to joining Employers’ Federation of Ceylon, she served as an Attorney at Law at the Child Protection Unit of the Attorney General’s Department.  From 2019 to 2021, she worked as a Research Assistant at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura. In 2023, she served as a Research Analyst at the Institute of National Security Studies.

Ruwan has been with the Federation since 2017 and is involved in the activities of its Solutions Unit. His main research strengths are Education Economics, Health Economics, Poverty Analysis and Labour Economics. He has contributed to the EFC publications/surveys on The Initial Assessment of The Impact of COVID -19 on Employers and Plantation Trade Unions. Ruwan also represents the EFC at various related fora.   

Before joining the Federation, Ruwan has been employed at the World Health Organisation, National Authority on Tobacco and Alcohol and the Institute for Health Policy.
